Our Story

Eleven Years. No Exit.

Seven strangers met in a Gozitan farmhouse in 2015. They're still here.

Bitcoin Club Malta — building since 2015

The Long Game

Malta had its Bitcoin moment before most of the world caught on. The first regulated Bitcoin hedge fund launched here in 2012. By 2018, the island was a pilgrimage site — conferences, capital, and thousands of Bitcoiners arriving at Luqa Airport with orange pill in hand.

The Bitcoin Island vision — 2018

Then the hype died. The tourists left, the speculators moved on, and the builders remained. We were there in 2015 and we are still here. A decade of weekly meetups — breakfasts, dinners, boat days, workshops — through every cycle, every crash, every “Bitcoin is dead” headline. That's not a community. That's a commitment.

Policy

What We're Fighting For

BCM doesn't lobby. We educate, advocate, and build — until the policy catches up with the reality.

01

Keep the Zero Percent

Malta’s 0% capital gains tax on long-term personal Bitcoin holdings is one of the most significant policies in the EU. We intend to keep it that way. Every regulatory cycle is a threat — BCM is at the table making sure the people who hold decide the outcome.

02

Spend Bitcoin in Malta

We’re building a circular Bitcoin economy on this island, one merchant at a time. From coffee shops in Valletta to dive operators in Gozo, BCM helps Maltese businesses accept Bitcoin and Lightning payments. The goal: you can live your entire life here without touching fiat.

03

Briefing the People in Charge

Politicians make Bitcoin policy based on what they understand — so we make sure they understand it. BCM takes the conversation straight to the source: street interviews, policy briefs, and direct engagement with the officials setting the rules.

04

First to Regulate. Still Leading.

Malta passed the Virtual Financial Assets Act in 2018 — the world’s first comprehensive Bitcoin regulatory framework. That wasn’t an accident; it was the result of years of community engagement. We’re still here, still engaged, and still making sure Malta earns its reputation every year.

05

Your Keys. Your Bitcoin.

Self-custody is not a preference — it is a right. BCM actively opposes any regulation that would force Bitcoiners into custodial solutions, mandatory reporting on private wallets, or surveillance frameworks disguised as consumer protection. Non-negotiable.

06

Malta Leads. The World Watches.

What Malta does with Bitcoin sets a precedent. A jurisdiction of 500,000 people can move faster and smarter than any G20 nation — and the world is paying attention. BCM is here to make sure Malta uses that advantage to become the global reference point for Bitcoin policy done right.

Everything you need to know about Bitcoin Club Malta.

We're not a crypto group — we're Bitcoin-only. No altcoins, no tokens, no NFT nonsense. We've been meeting in person since 2015, long before most "crypto communities" existed. Our focus is real-world adoption: onboarding merchants to accept Bitcoin, educating newcomers face-to-face, and advocating for sound money policy in Malta. Every week there's something happening — dinners, workshops, boat days, breakfast meetups. This is a real community, not a Discord server.
Not at all. Many of our most active members showed up to their first meetup knowing nothing about Bitcoin. That's the whole point — we teach you in person. At our weekly events, experienced Bitcoiners help newcomers set up wallets, make their first Lightning payment, and understand why Bitcoin matters. You'll learn faster over a coffee in Sliema than watching a hundred YouTube videos.
Bitcoin, obviously. We accept Lightning payments — instant, private, and low-fee. No credit cards, no PayPal, no fiat rails. This isn't just a preference, it's the point: we practice what we preach. If you don't have Bitcoin yet, come to a free public meetup first. We'll help you buy your first sats and walk you through your first real Bitcoin transaction.
Stacker (21,000 sats/yr) gets you in the door — the app, events calendar, merchant directory, and access to our regular public meetups plus Bitcoin Breakfast invites. Hodler (123,000 sats/yr) unlocks members-only in-person events: wine tastings, sunrise sessions, workshop series, plus 15% off all paid events. Whale (1,000,000 sats/yr) is for those who want to steer the ship — voting rights, strategy briefings, the Bitcoin Boat, private dinners at secret locations, and VIP experiences across the island.
Yes — we've kept our doors open since 2015. The monthly meetup, Bitcoin Breakfast, and many workshops are free and public. We've been running consistent in-person events for nearly a decade, rain or shine, bull or bear. It's the best way to see what we're about before joining. Check the events calendar and show up — that's how every member started.
This is what we do. Real-world Bitcoin adoption is our core mission. Our Merchant Lead walks you through everything: choosing the right payment setup, configuring Lightning, training your staff, and getting listed on BTCMap so Bitcoiners can find you. We've helped dozens of Malta businesses go live. Reach out to us about enterprise partnerships for directory listings, promotion at our events, and connecting with other Bitcoin-accepting businesses on the island.
A Whale-exclusive day on the Mediterranean. We charter a boat, invite guest speakers, and spend the day discussing Bitcoin, the Maltese economy, and the future of money — all while sailing between the islands. It's the kind of event that only happens when a community meets in person for years. Past trips have featured founders, policy makers, and some unforgettable sunsets. It's high-touch networking in a setting you won't find anywhere else.
Show up. That's step one — real communities are built face-to-face. Beyond attending events, we have volunteer roles: Community Lead, Content Lead, Education Lead, Merchant Lead, Tech Lead, and Policy Lead. You can also help by onboarding a local business to accept Bitcoin, mentoring newcomers at meetups, writing for our newsletter, or simply bringing a friend to the next event. Every member who helps a shop accept their first Lightning payment is pushing the mission forward.
We currently don't have an option for refunds. That said, you can cancel your membership any time if your circumstances demand so. In severe cases, say you fat fingered an annual membership payment and sent 5 Bitcoin instead of 500,000, we'll of course upgrade you to lifetime member.
